Hi,

My red neon Dwarf Gouramie is dieing, I'm rely concerned about it. Please help, one side of it's body is swollen badly with a white cut. It's staying at the bottom and not moving apart from rapid breathing. From a metere away, it looks dead! My water is FAR to alkaline, (9). I need to acidify it but don't know how.

Regards

Nima

No. Don't play with the natural water params. It sounds like your Gouramie has been injured and an infection has taken severe hold. You need to treat it with appropriate medication and make sure the water is kept as clean as possible.
To be honest it might well be too late as once the infection gets as bad as that very little works, but try anyway. Some do pull through. Best of luck.

Thanks but what medication? I really don't want him to die, not only is he worth £3.95. But he is very pretty!

I'd use an anti-internal bacteria med (I tend to use Interpet). Make sure the water in the tank is clean and you remove the carbon from the filter first. With any luck that will help stop any infection spreading.
A picture of the poor fella would also help in diagnosing correct treatment. If you can isolate him into a quarantine tank you should do so. Keep the water level quite low so he can reach the surface easily to breathe.

Never mind, he's dead. And of all places to die he picked my cave! Now I can't get him out because my Guppies bite me. :-(

my pink kissing gourami doesn't look good either, his fins are ripped because the other fish were beating him up becase hes sick.
i put him in the 100 gallon and he just sits on the bottom, he isn't getting any air from the surface! His fins haven't moved at all...

i turned off the light in the tank, but I think he is going to go to fishy heaven...
