I finally found a LFS....bought a bubbler for the tank (among other odds, ends, and necessities. I am sure you understand) that is the long hose type. Put it along the back of the tank.

My cichlids -- I swear they are goofing off and playing in the bubbles, swimming up and down the curtain over and over again....

Are they always this silly? Or am I misinterpreting?

It's suprising how some fish like to play in the bubbles and some keep well away from them. Yours obviously enjoy the "jaccuzi" :D

:D

Yea, imo, nothing compares to cichlids when it comes to personality. That goes for SA/CA's, (South American/Central American), I mean.

What type and species do you have?

I have so many funny personality stories I would get writers cramp posting it with my 8 words ppm typing.

They can actually tell who feeds them, how their owner distinctively walks, and distinguish colors. So many stories of their antics, I can't wait to hear yours.

I just want to say tho, make sure you are the one who feeds them if you want to be the one who is the main interactor with them. I know it sounds weird but they usually only like one person. If many people feed them on a regular basis, they'll like all of you but they only take to whoever feeds and interacts with them. Noone else.

I've had many cichlids, especially red devils, that would see me and come flying to the top of the tank wiggling all over for me to pet him but just seconds later I had someone else start walking up and from 10 ft away the red devil would start attacking the glass to get at him and he better not put his hand in the tank at all.

You will have so much fun with your cichlids.

Cichlids rule. :smb:

I am ashamed to admit I don't know what kind I have. It's a long story -- short version is that I didn't want to get too attached, as I figured they would die early on. THis was before I learned about nitrogen cycling, etc. When I bought them at the pet store, I pretty much had the guy pick em out for me. Weak, huh? That didn't work out -- now I would be pissed if they died.

I have 3 total -- one is yellow, with 50% of his body having horizontal stripes. This is the mean one that overeats like crazy. I have another that looks most like the rust cichlid I have seen on this board; the other is a dull gray/dun color -- the biggest of the three, and the one that most likes to shoot upwards with a stream of bubbles.

Currently I live alone, so no worries about feeding etc. And you are right -- they come right up to the tank when they see me. Makes it hard not to overfeed them!
