I would nix the cories and go for a bigger, more hardy catfish. You may look into synodontis eupteras?

I dont see why not. with the pairs, you want them to be the same sex. if you get a m/f pair, you will have problems if they breed

Cories are small and could possibly be eaten by those fish once they are full grown. Something more heavy like a synodontis will make sure catfish isn't a main course for the bigger fish.
