ok, well my tank really needs a scavenger cat fish, i was wondering what was a good one that is not a schooling fish. it needs to be about 2 inches and be able to live in communities. thanks for any help.

have a look at some corydoras, they`re dead friendly fun to watch and just hoover the bottom of the tank al day

I would not suggesting any sort of animal for the purpose of scavenging unless you are sure they are getting enough food and don't need special foods. Corydoras would not work since they have to be fed a varied diet like all fish if you want them to remain healthy.

Not sure of any catfish, but you could try ghost shrimp, though you might need quite a few of them. I'd suggest you feed your fish less, thereby not needing a scavenger.

you could try 2 or 3 khuli loach's, they dont grow very big but really colorful :D

Seth, loaches are schooling fish. Please look up the requirements for them; I'm afraid a 20 gallon tank is too small for a proper school of loaches. You could get away with 3-4 khuli loaches, if you stay on top of you water stats and changes, though.

EDIT: Just saw your sig and you have 2 algae eaters; what kind are they?

I tell you, porthole catfish are great, they stay small and they clean up pretty well. They might need a little more food than scavenging, but they're not overly shy and will come out to eat. but if you have already have a couple of algae eaters, I dont' see how much scavenging you need in a such a small tank. It sounds kinda like overkill to me. Don't kill anything by putting too much in.
