hi everyone.

a few days ago i got a 12" plec from an lfs. it was a good fish, it really caught my eye. the only problem was he had a few "battle scars" where he had come from a large tank with aggressive species. i know injured fish arent a good idea, but i just couldnt resist at ten pounds :dunno: ! what does everyone think, did i get ripped off?

I don't know how much pounds are compared to US dollars, but there is a 12 inch plec at my LFS for $14.99.

What size tank did you put him in?

well it depends on what type of pleco it was - commons shouldn't cost THAT much even at that size....any other pleco is probably worth it though.....scars are scars, and will most likely go away - i have bought plenty of catfish that have slight wounds (and my syno eup. has minor wounds quite often from battling with my bristlenose) but he heals perfectly fine within a couple days

I think a tenner for a foot long healthy Common Plec is a reasonable price.
Our common (Stewart) was about that and he was eight inches when we got him.

yep if it's a common i think thats a pretty good price aswell, if it turned up at my work we would of wacked £15 on it.

we recently sold a 12" sailfin for £20 and we currently have a 7" and 10" plec going for £10.

it all depends on what us as the shop give the customer for the fish. some are happy to get rid of them there fore we charge less, others want a bit for them so we charge more to accomondate it and make sure it's worth our time and effort housing them.

$14.99 would be very roughly 8-9 pounds depending on the current rate. i put him in a 120l jewel with a few danios, a gourami, a couple mollies, some cories, a kuhli loach, a spiny eel and a beautiful gold spot anchistrus.

yea i took the 8" common pleco out of my 46 gallon because he got too big for it...i couldn't imagine a 12" pleco that is still growing in an even smaller tank
