Right now I am using Tetraplant Florapride because I want my plants to have the best chance at survival. Already in less than a month each Anubias nana plant has grown multiple leaves and one has even flowered. I highly recommend supplements like this or a nutrient rich substrate such as Fluorite plant feed for long term plant health. A basic rule of thumb to plants is to make sure the leaf loss is less than the leaf growth. Faster leaf loss is indicating a deficiency of nutrients usually. Brown or tan leaves is usually nitrogen deficiency.

I save my money and do not use a plant substrate. I, instead, dose via the water column and have excellent growth. Here is an example of the growth I get without a plant substrate. In fact, this particular tank didn't have much in the way of dosing at all. It is, IMHO, not an absolutely necessary component to good plant growth.

It also saves me the hassle of substrate mixing, which I find annoying, as I tend to shift things around in my tanks.

One bottle of the supplement I bought is enough to dose the tank for upwards of one year. Its something like 6 teaspoons a month to increase the iron levels to around .1-.5 mg/L. This is in no way financially draining at roughly 6 dollars a year. You do have a beautiful tank and I am simply being cautious and maximizing the plants survival chances in my new tank.

Iron supplementation is not the most important factor. Plants need more than iron. They also need macro nutrients (Nitrogen, phosphorus, and Potassium) and trace, of which iron is included. Maintaining iron levels is not so important and tests that claim to measure iron are actually quite inaccurate. Creating a balance between your lighting levels, CO2 requirements, and nutrients is more vital. You should have a read of this article by Aaronnorth. It will say things that are contrary to what is commonly said in retail shops.

The supplements are obviously not the most important factors. However you will read overwhelming knowledge and results that prove that these nutrient supplements basically guarantee success as long as all other factors are present.

Where? Show me the literature that you speak of. I will read it and draw my own conclusions. This is how I operate.
