Okay last week the stocking in my 15 gallon tank was:
4 amber tetras
6 neon tetras
8 pygmy tetras
3 endlers
3 female bettas
and 4 shrimp.
Now before you flame me for being overstocked note that endlers, amber tetras and pygmy cories do not grow over 2cm so the bio load is tiny and my tank is over filtered. Water is tested every week too and no bullying has taken place.
Bad news 1st:
Unfortuneately beginning of this week 2 pygmies and my male endler have died for no apparent reason and theres no sickness in the tank that i can discern. no bullying and the remaining fish all look heallthy.
Water tests are fine the only thing i can think of is that what with the heatwave we've had the water temp may have risen too high for the fish. Anyone else agree with this theory?
Goodnews: At the same time i found one of the bodies i noticed i have baby endlers in the tank (at least five) so once they are of a size where they are easily caught they will be rehomed to friends and the LFS. But i was so pleased to see them surviving in my tank.
Even better news: where i used to have 4 shrimp i now seem to have 5 (1 being very tiny). Which was very surprising indeed!! One shrimp is defineately an amano shrimp but the others were very different and i never bothered to identify them, well i think they are Sri lanka dwarf shrimp (Caridina simoni simoni) which give birth to mini shrimp Shrimp info
Has anyone got anymore info on these shrimp? When i get a chance i'll take a photo of them as i wan't confirmation of my ID.
So now i'm just confused, happy with all the babies but slightly worried as to why some of my fish are dying.
Does anyone know weather pygmy cories are sensitive to anything in particular?
