Hey all. I'm new to this forum and still finding my feet when it comes to fish.
I've owned a coldwater tank for a couple of years but only in the last 10 - 12 months have I really been able to appreciate what is required of me as a responsible fish keeper.
I started with a small "Aqua 40" 26 litre tank with 3 orandas, a CAE and 4 danios. In hindsight I realise thats way too much for 25 litres! It may also explain why I sadly lost all the orandas over 8 months. The aquatics shop really should of given me better advice, but thats no excuse for not researching it better!
Still, lessons learnt and I feel my knowledge is up to scratch enough to be able to take care of my fish properly.
As it stands, I have 1 fancy goldfish, recently named John Goodman! He's approximately 1 1/2 to 2 years old and abount 3" snout to bum. I'm still not 100% sure what he is, possibly a veil tail, but his body shape looks wrong. He was sold as an Oranda, but as yet no wen has appeared. Who knows
All I know is that he's cool and I love the little fella
Also currently have 4 white cloud mountain minnows and 4 zebra danios to keep the fancy happy. They're all in a 70L tank and seem to be happy enough
The CAE survived but, as with most CAE's he turned quite aggressive and started attacking my fancy
Why couldn't the shop have told me this before he was sold to me... (rhetorical question
)
Anyway, he's got his own "pad" and I've been raising his tank temperature slowly as he is more of a tropical than a cold water. Recently moved him from his cramped temporary home to his less cramped (but perhaps still small) new home. He's a good 5" in body length. I've grown to like him more now that I understand him better.
Anyway, enough of the essay! I'll see you around no doubt!
