As some of yall know my sand was killing all my fish when it got all cloudy. Well I went out to buy sand, and it turns out it was the same crap, so after fillining up the tank again, I had to drain out all 55 gallons again and take out the sand, that was twice yesturday, so I decide to leave it bear bottemed. I fill it up with water that is the same temp, and some from the old tank, all the same decor and all, anbd my water doesnt have chlorine or any other heavy metals, but I put in some stress coat that dechlorinates anyways.

I let my filter run so the tank should be all cycled. Well when I add my fish, chaos!

All of my barbs, and 3 minnows died! My lovely long finneded barbs cost alot, and were so nice, Im sad theyre gone! The betta is the only fish that didnt have any issues.

I'm shocked that the angels and panda corries are still alive though. So now I have to go and buy gravel, as there are no pool stores to buy pool filter sand. Thats going to cost and arm and a leg.

After everything that has gone wrong, this just makes it sux even more

I'm so sorry to hear about your losses. :byebye: It's really irritating when fish die for no apparent reason. I just had a dwarf platy die the other day. No signs of disease or anything. He was doing amazingly well and then he just kicked the bucket. :-( I know it's hard, but keep going! Fish keeping is too awesome to give up. (...and too addicting.)

Shucks, so sorry to hear :-(
you really have had a tough time recently.
It's can only get better now ! :)

my parents think they are still in charge of me and tell me thta I cant get anymore fish. Im going to college for God sakes, they cant treat me like Im 5. And my mom is pissed that I got a betta for that tank, she just doesnt get it that the females wont kill anything

If there is a Home Depot in your area, you can get "Lighthouse" brand pool filter sand there and it is only about $6.00 for a 50lb. bag.

Regardless, good luck in sorting out your problems.

Yeah, I looked yesturday, but they had none

sorry but i suspect that it is not the sand...there has to be some underlying issue...what sand are you using exactly? from where? are you thorughly rinsing it? i have used the playsand from both home depot and lowe's without a single issue...

the fact that the pandas and angels are still alive IS odd, but there has to be a reason for the sudden deaths...and a little bit of suspended sand (even a lot) isn't going to kill fish..i mean, look at the water a lot of them are native to...black, murky, filled with debris, etc

no, they didnt die from the sand, as its bear bottem, and there was no sand in the tank when they died.

well you said "as you all know my sand was killing my fish"....

anyhow...maybe they died from stress of changing sooo much water in one day....

I dont, maybe

oh, that was joke, but I did have the sand all fog up the water, and alot of fish died during that time.
