:D Good Evening One And All,

On Wednesday, I am getting a new Betta. My poor darling Daniel, died in April. He was a double tailed red Betta and I miss Him so much. Daniel had in a five gallon tank, three Apple Snails (also I miss them all as they are dead,) numerous live snails, I only have five of them left and some Trumpet Snails. I have a lot of them but they basically stay hidden. I am searching for a Shrimp that would be good with Bettas. Ok, here is what I am looking for. I want something that:

Lives a relatively long life
Is compatible with Betta Fish
Eats flake fish food as well as algae
and when they shed their skin, they become hard almost immediately.

Now, I think I know what is going to be said, lol this is not possible. I did see one though, for the life of me, I just cannot remember what it was. However two kinds have really caught my attention but, I was told by a very nice gentleman on this site that the first one was NO WAY. I loved the Green one on the front of this site. The name now escapes me. :) The second one is a "White Spotted Pearl Shrimp." Frankly however, I know very little about any of these things. :) The only think I know I do NOT want are Ghost Shrimp, because, A) they do not live more than a year or two and B) Daniel, my last Betta, HATED them. Any advice at all would be very very welcome. I have only had two Betta's in my life and I do not want to mess up with this one. He is going to be very special to me, as He is coming to me from a friend who is critically ill. Have a wonderful night all. Sincerely, Dawn :)

Maybe some Amano shrimp, they're kind of like ghost shrimp but bigger.

Good luck finding a shrimp that meets your needs! Hopefully you'll get some more suggestions. :good:

However, I am a bit concerned about the number of snails you plan on keeping in the 5g tank in addition to the betta, especially if you've lost bettas and snails alike in that tank in the past. Snails, though small, contribute to bio-load, often creating a large amount of fecal waste which then pollutes the water. 5+ snails in a 5g tank with a betta and a shrimp sounds overstocked to me; I've had issues with cleanliness in filtered 5g tanks with just a betta and a snail, because of the large amount of feces the snail made. So, be cautious about how many of the lil' guys you keep in the tank with the betta at once. ;)

Thank you so much for the advice. Someone else had suggested this type of Shrimp to me but, it did not look like, they lived all that long. Also, I have been concerned not so much about the little round tiny snails. Of course, as I said before, the Apple Snails are all three dead but, I am concerned about the Trumpet Snails I have. Oh I hate the thought of getting rid of them, one way or the other but, if things start to be a problem, this may be what I am going to have to do. At any rate, I have decided to see what happens tomorrow, when Fletcher the fish, comes home. IF things go well, I will be on the search again. No one thought that the two I posted up top on the first post, were a good idea though huh????? Sincerely, Dawn :)
