All of my platies r covered with ick now and theirs no hope   . I cant get any treatment this week :shout: . Every time I get a platy they just get ick  . I even got a cycled tank for them but I guess I cant use it soon. So I'm going to take a holiday away form my fish for a while while my main tank is cycling. Is their any livebearers that don't get ick as easily? I mean, I lost 3 platys in the past week :rip: :byebye: . I just can’t take it anymore.

ohh, i am really sorry to hear about your sick fish... :-(

i hope they survive untill you get some medications!

If your fish have whitespot then the tank needs treating asap... you need to up the temperautre to 28-29C and then wait til all visible spots fall off the fish (usually within 24-48 hours), then treat straight away...

If you regulary get whitespot then your water conditions aint good and you need to maintain your tanks more..

Hope this helps :)

When your fish hae ick and you treat them. Treat them a few days after the spots are gone as the ick is still in your tank. I tmight help to turn your heat up and do daily water changes and add aquarium salt. Platies are ahrdy, but i think you need to do more maintence. Do you treat your water?

hi, just to correct a little mistake you made if you dont mind :)

You turn the heat up first, wait 24-48 hours for the spots to fall offf, as soon as no spots are visible, you then treat the tank..

Good point about the salt ;) this will boost the med and help :)

yeah, I took out some water and put hot water in (with water con.) I don't have a heater so im going to leave the tank light on for 48 hours. Would that be ok? Also I learned that ick cant live without fish to thrive on, so im going to put my 4 x-ray tetras in my three gallon, then some how give my 3 platies away. I have no choice.

Technically platies dont require a heater. Not living in warm water reduces thier immune system, which is bad. Also, putting hot water in the tank could kill the fish alone becasue of the temp shock. I've seen it happen. If your tank is only 10g( im guessing it is), you can get heaters for it for under 10 dollars. The money you spend on fish could be used to get a heater,a dn then get fish. A heater is also a good disease preventitive. I know that as i forgot to plug my heater in for my baby angelfish tank. What do you know, the baby now has a bacterial infection. He/she is now doing better after i got the heater plugged in. Thanks 5teady. I dont always have complete thoughts when i suggest things! The tank temp should be at about 80 degreee's( somewher from 28-29C). So when the ick falls off, it cant breed again. Most meds tell you to raise the temp anyway!
