whats a good base for a community setup? is there anything to lower ph???
Can i use plain sand? Or whats the best gravel to use?

Is there any reason in particular why you want to lower the ph?
What fish are you planning to stock in the tank?

My preference is for fine gravel or sand.
You could add peat to your filter or bogwood is said to slightly reduce PH somewhat over a period of time.
Personally the quickest way I've found is by introducing CO2 - I mainly did this for the plants, but my PH dropped from 8.2 - 7.2 in a matter for days. This however depends on your KH.

persoanlly although i use light coloured gravel, my perference is now for much darker substarte, have a look in the pics forum and see which you prefer

Well at the moment i'm using sand & coral in my african cichlid tank, i think ill go for plain sand in my community setup. The reason i want to drop my ph a little is because, my tap ph is 7.6 a little to high for plants and neons, bettas right?
