well, i had an established tank and i decided to emty it all out and give it a good clean and the put my gerbils in it as some of you may know.
since then i have set this tank back up and will begin cycleing in the middle of next week.
i have chosen fishless cycleing as ive never used this method and it is surposed to be much more easyer and quicker.
but when i cleaned out the tank i moved the gravel out (obviously) and put it in a bucket.so the gravel dried out .
but will the gravel still contain the good bacteria or will it all have died?
i need this good bacteria you see to speed up the cycleing process and it would be a great help.

the good bacteria dies very fast and can die within an hour if it has no water. be patient with your fishless cycle or if there is a retailer around you that caries it you could get some biro-spira which is a liquid that is strains of the good bacteria and the next day you can get fish.
:D

 that sounds very good to me .sounds like my sort of stuff.
i can see it being expensive though.is it ? :(
well if i cant get my hands on this stuff then it looks like im in for a long cycle. :grr:

You can't get biospira in the uk.

:-( o bugga, thats a right bummer isnt it lol.
il try and persuade the neighbours if i can have some of thier gravel or some thing out of there tank to speed it up a bit more. :good:
could i get this biospira off the internet or ebay ? :shifty:

Biospira has to be kept refrigerated all the time, so you can't really post it. There is a product called Bactinette that is supposed to do the same thing and be available in the UK, but I've never seen it around. I've done 3 fishless cycles to date, and they've really not taken that long: the longest was about 3 weeks. I quite liked having that time to put the final touches to my stocking plans and visit all the local lfs to see who had the healthiest fish.

yes ive heard it takes about 3 weeks off this web site.
is this web site reliable sorce?, as ive found out most of my information from this

Just to say don't count on the 3 weeks I've been at it for around 7 and I'm not the only one and I'm still not finished yet :(
