Hiya folks,

time to stock up on meds due to mine being 2 years out of date Lol.

What are some good medications to have on stand by if the worse where to happen.

Im looking at the following:

Myxazin -
MYXAZIN lowers the count of harmful bacteria in aquarium water, treating Fin Rot, Body Rot, Ulcers, Sores and other bacterial infections. MYXAZIN will also help to control Pop - Eye Disease, Cloudy Eyes and Mouth Fungus. MYXAZIN should be used daily until symptoms disappear (typically this would be between 3 and 5 applications). MYXAZIN can also be used to sterilise nets and live foods such as Daphnia and Tubifex, for treating Whitespot in seawater aquaria containing invertebrates. MYXAZIN is mild on fish, highly biodegradable and effective against a wide range of fish health problems.

Seems to cover most things and is safe on inverts.

Recommendations please.

Hi -=Joel=- :)

I've heard a lot of good things about Myxazin. It's too bad I can't get it here in the US.

A good thing to keep on hand is some aquarium salt, but unless you might have difficulty getting to a lfs in an emergency, it might be better to wait until something goes wrong before buying medicine since it has a limited shelf life.

If you take good care of your tanks, and are lucky too, maybe you won't need any kind of medicine. :D

Epsom salt is one that doesn't have an expiration date. It's good for constipation & bloat, as well as helping to draw out the fluid when dealing with dropsy.

Luckily, in my 15years I have yet to have a major problem. Touch wood I dont start to now Lol.

However I have took on the practice to have a med box which I try to refresh every 6months - 1year. Most of the bottles dont even get opened but I like to know I have some if I need it. Its not like its all that expensive anyways.

I dicided to purchase Myxazin, Melafix, Primafix and a whitespot. The only med I do use a fair bit of is melafix. Keeping cichlids you cant help to get a few nicks in the tail here and there and this stuff does the job in conjunction with lots of water changes :D

yeah we always keep a bottle of melafix and pimafix in the house, also ws3 which is (in our opinion) the best white spot med around. it's just like keeping asprin in the house isn't it, best to have it there even if you don't need it cos you can guarantee when you need some desperatley it'll be bank holiday, nowhere's open, the cars broken down and there's no buses running and your short of cash and you'll see that you need something.

never tried myaxin but have heard good things about it. :)

We always keep King British Disease Clear on hand, it's got silver in it and clears up fin rot and bacterial probs v. quickly, miles more effective than anything else we've used - and no loss of otherwise symptom free fish in the tank, unlike Pimafix and Melafix which have both caused deaths in problem free fish for us. Although we're using Pimafix alongside our white spot treatment at the moment as it's the only thing you can use alongside, and so far, no losses - but it's only day 2.

Melafix and Interpet no. 7 (for whitespot). And salt :)
