golfish struggling

i bought this little guy 2.5 months ago and he has not grown in size much and appears weak lately. while the other 3 bought at or almost the same time has grown and are relatively healthy. up until the last few days, he's been eating, swimming, behaving normally. lately he's been resting at the bottom, swimming has been rather a struggle (almost 'floating' in a way), cant get to food fas enough before eaten by other 3. he doesn't appear to have any visible health symptoms.

any suggestions to make him healthier and grow bigger?

sad to report the little guy didn't make it. i could blame myself for being a newbie and making silly avoidable mistakes, could be the food, could be water quality, could be many things...i could also blame the local petco selling me poor quality fish..

i'm contemplating whether this hobby is for me.
