where i work, my boss has this AMAZING goldfish buttt he has ich. they've been giving him these meds (i'm not sure what they are) but he hasn't been getting much better. he just sort of sulks on the bottom when he was insanely active when i first started about a week ago. is there anything else they can do for him?

i'm not new to fish, i'm new to goldfish

Try raising the temp to 80F / 27C, turn the lights off and if you can wrap the tank to prevent ambient light from getting in, and add 1tbsp of salt per gallon a couple of times a day for a coupled of days...

Ich is usually brought on by stress, goldfish are very messy so it could very well have something to do with the water paramaters. If you can grab a water sample and get numbers for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates that would be very helpful.

Also, about what size tank is this and what sort of goldfish? I wouldn't keep a single fancy goldfish in anything less than 30 gallons, maybe 20-25 gallons for one of the smaller varieties like the bubble eyes. Commons and comets need much more space, wouldn't go under 75 gallons for them though a pond would be better. If its a smaller tank, he's likely been stunted by poor water conditions as they do stunt very easily.

As for treating the ich, I would not treat him like a tropical fish, they prefer cooler temperatures so I wouldn't go as high as 80F, try 75F but only if the tank is well aerated. I'd also suggest doing a good water change, 20-30% with a very thorough gravel vac. If they're medicating the tank and it has activated carbon in the filter, the medication is being removed before it can do any good.

You could have them do a water change to get that medication out since it sounds like it might not be working. And add coppersafe as your new ich treatment. It is made to do a great job and it does. It treated one of my female swordtails in 2 days. You can maintain regular filtration as long as the filter has been in for 5 or more days, and you don't have to worry about raising the temperature.

What size is the tank that the fish is in? Do some water changes too.

I used ridich, worked fine.Safe for plants and inverts. As stated above these things are usually brought on buy stress of some kind.Poor water conditions or other health problems(internal).Goldfish are notorious for swimbladder infections which can weaken the immune system.Do big water changes to get rid of the medications used ,maybe use some active carbon to help.Give the tank acouple of days then try the ridich as directed and make sure to remove the carbon.I have tried the salt and temp. increase with out success, doesnt mean it doesnt work, just didnt work for me or my goldfish. The ridich did.

i have no idea what size tank it is, as i said, it's where i work, not my fish but i've gotten attached to him. my boss has been medicating him with something, i'm not sure what it is but it says (i looked at it today) "for treating ich, velvet and other external parasites". he's been doing lots of water changes, too.

i'm honestly not sure if he'll make it through the night, he looked terrible when i left today. he was laying on the bottom and against the side, partially on his side and breathing kind of heavily from what i've seen.
