Hey, has anyone mentioned that 8 goldfish in a 10 gallon is the worst thing to ever happen in the entire history of fishkeeping and possibly the whole world yet?
They have? Really? How'd I know that would happen?
I do so love it when people feel the overwhelming need to critique the stocking choices of others. Endless entertainment.
Anyway, I've had a surprising amount of luck with anacharis, believe it or not.
I threw it in there expecting it to get eaten, but I had some extra and figured I'd just let it do its "nitrogen sponge" thing until it was completely consumed. But, to my surprise, my kids' (common) goldfish only snacked on it a little, but it was growing fast enough that it wasn't really a problem.
By way of contrast, they did some pretty heavy damage to my java fern, which I had heard they would leave alone. They picked the leaves to pieces, all the way down to the stems. Rhizome is still okay though, as far as I can tell. Now that the GF have moved on, I'm hoping it will rise from the ashes.
Wisteria was completly consumed. Amazon sword was not eaten, but it wasn't the healthiest plant in the world when I put it in there. I'm thinking they didn't eat it because there were greener pastures to graze.
So, in my experience, goldfish will choose not to follow the "conventional wisdom" when the opportunity presents itself. Darn the little buggers.
