Will goldfish munch on java fern?
I have posted this in coldwater forum too, but was getting inpatient with its inactiveness. Wanted an answer by 3 today as I may go up to the lfs.

Thanks :)

I have 2 goldfish and 2 snails and a Java Fern and, so far, no one has munched on it. I see them checking it out but I have never seen them take a bite... I have had the fern in the tank for about a month.

Supposedly Java fern has a taste that is unpleasant to fish, though, I've never known goldfish to be particularly finicky eaters so you never know. I would give it a try. As long as they are well-fed, I don't anticipate a problem. Anubias might also be something to try, especially the larger leafed species like Anubia barterii. There leaves are very thick, and it would take some serious mouth action to bite a chunk from one of them to cause serious damage. These plants are also very hardy, do well with minimum light, and will do well with all the lovely nutrients produced by the goldfish. They can tolerate the cooler temperatures too.

What size tank is this? I used to keep goldfish.
