Goldfish Cycle

Can someone tell me if you can use mature goldfish filter media to cycle a tropical tank. Its just i dont know anyone that keep tropical fish.
Some help would be appreciated.

yes it's fine to use goldfish filter media to kick start a tropical tank. Just make sure you acclimatise the filter for temperature. Basically just float the filter material in the tropical tank until the temp is the same and then put it in.

Whats the best way of getting it home.

Stick it in a bag of water from the tank and add some air. Keep it at a stabile temperature and away you go.
If you don't have a bag then use a 10 litre bucket with some tank water in. Put a lid on the bucket and take it home asap.
If possible clean the filter a week before you move it. This will get rid of most of the gunk and leave more room for beneficial bacteria.
