Two pics of my golden sev. First one was taken three months ago. Recently had these red freckles appear behind the mouth as can hopefully be seen in the second picture. Is this normal?

Couldn't make out what I was talking about in the other picture. This one should hopefully be better....

Cheers

Very nice fish, I like his color!

That's an absolutely awesome fish  I love the little red freckles on the gills (or is that jaw or perhaps cheek ?).

Lovely fish and yes its perfectly normal, im surprised it hasn't got more.

Yeah he's great. He's about 3 years old, maybe the 'freckles' are a part of growing up. I think they really add to his appeal. Will keep updated if this colour develops more...

Very nice fish you have there. I would love to keep them but im not sure if i would manage? Are they a difficult fish to keep?

My experience is they are quite hardy and I would not consider them difficult to manage. I keep him with angels, corys, rummynose tetras and discus and he is the most dominant of all. Always hungry! Before I had discus I had him with an Arowana and he used to bully him, even though the Arowana was twice his size. Saw him steal a mealworm from his mouth more than once!

Only downside is that he tends to uproot and eat plants, so I've only imitation plastic plants at the moment.
