Ah yes i remember having three of thse so called community fish in my tank. Absolute nightmare. The biggest became a bully and hassled my fish -butting them and scaring them. The other two were so scared of moving they cowled away in the plants and never showed their face. They label them community fish in shops so beware. They are fine when they are small but they get very territorial-only have one if you have a six foot tank and bigger fish to keep it in its place-needless to say mine were evicted ages ago. :grr:

where they are adults they also give up on their diet of algea and turn to a more fishy dinner!!! beware deffo not a community fish!

Yep-they never ate my algae-my mollies do a better job-somebody should tell these shops though-its not fair on the learning punter-further reading on the net told me that these were not ideal for the aquarium... you live and learn :)

Please dont hate me.......I work at a "lfs" but....but, I try and tell people the truth about how the fish really are. But then its like they dont want to believe you because the tag says community and their name is algae eater. It just seems like even when people go to the fish stores to get information about the fish they have or want to keep they get conflicting information and dont know what to believe. But of course one person cant change a national fish stores mind and all you can do is tell the truth and let the customers make up their minds. Obviously this just doesnt go along with the algae eaters but with alot of fish. Its just frustrating to work somewhere and actually know what you are talking about and people still treat you like you are stupid. Now where I work the thing is to tell people that a group of schooling fish only counts as one. Yes as only one fish, so you can buy 12 serpae tetras and they only count as one. Thats nice huh?

I bouught a 4inch CAE from the lfs furthest away from me. it was in a coldwater tank and called "Sucking Loach." I didn't know what it was and I had an algea problem in my coldwater tank, at the time, and saw it did infact have a "sucker-mouth" so i bought it.
It was fine in my tank for ages but then I moved out. It was then put in a tank with coldwater, sub-tropical and tropical fish. this was again fine.
I have in the end given up this fish because i am now planning to get a fancy "pleco."
Plecostomus are alot more better and more attractive than this fish...in my opinion.
The guy at my most reliable lfs put my CAE in a tank with huge fish lol and i wondered why.
after reading this thread, i know why now
