Golden Algae Eaters

I really like golden algae eater they are one of my fav. fish
but most resources say the grow to about 12 inches
i have never seen any one bigger than 3-4 inches???

If anyone has a rather large one could you post it
i would love to see it

no pic's as he is not alive anymore but my old one was over 7"+ and a few " in diameter he was like a tube that shot around the tank.

I used to have one that outgrew my 4ft tank and became to unpredictable with tank mates. He then went into our tropical pond where he reached a good 9-10" ! Possibly even larger, but we got rid of the pond and fish got rehomed to someone else. So who knows if it's still alive what size it is.

Don't underestimate what they can grow to (or how incredibly vicious they can be) just because you haven't seen it.

That said, until recently I had another in my community 47.5US gallon tank - but sadly after about 3 years and being around 4" it got to the stage where my other fish in the tank were suffering due to his unpredictable behavior and territorial-ness.

They are really lovely fish though and fabulous algae eaters while they are younger and smaller
