After my previous scape failed miserably I have decided that I am going to remove my massive piece of Bogwood and purchase a piece of Goldvine. I have a bristlenose that is obviously dependent on bogwood so my question is, will it survive off the goldvine?

and

If I leave my current piece of bogwood outside somewhere will it be ok? Or will it crack?

Cheers

Adam

I have 2 BN and dont have any bogwood, so long as you have enough areas where algae would grow they should be fine. Fingers crossed a pleco expert will be along soon enough, and if im wrong theyl soon tell me!!!

some plecs require bogwood as they actually eat it. pretty sure BN's dont, ive got one in a tank with nothing but fake ornaments and its 3 years old now and fine. i woudlnt worry about it.

not sure about the goldvine but you could also look at sumatra drift wood, its grows a form of fugus on it that is good for plecos and bristlenose.

i got a lump over cristmas rinsed and soaked it and my pleco and 2 bristles have been drawn to it from day one as if its a magnet.they seam to spend most of there day hanging off of it.

BN do require wood, they use it to aid digestion. If you want them at their best and to live a full life wood should be added. BN fry especially will require some wood source, not hard to add even a small piece to keep your BN happy

Goldvine will be no problems with BN

as above BN do require BW the rasp against bogwood most of the day when they are so called hiding

and as said they eat it to aid digestion

Yeah I thought that they did, well I will get some goldvine and cover it in java moss, fern and anubias

thanks for all of the input guys I really appreciate it :)
