hi

i have a pair of gold severum, the male is sometimes quite aggressive towards the female, chasing her around the tank until she finds a hiding place, this is usually worst at feeding time, he chases her away from the food, my question is this, would it be better to put another female in the tank, to ease the pressure on the one i already have, so he chases them both, and they get a bit of a rest?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Regards Tom

What size is the tank? Any other tankmates? Are you sure its male/female?

the tank is 40 g, yes they are a male and female, the male has the orange spots around the mouth and longer fins. they are in with two oscars, yes i know the tank wont be big enough in the long run, but the size of the fish at the min it's fine. thanks

You wont like this answer but Im gonna say it anyway, even as young sev's that tank is not large enough for them, merely on territorial space more than anything, along with 2 oscars, there just isnt enough space for them to escape to or claim as their own. This is the reason for your aggression problems.

I have two young sev's in a 100+ gallon tank and even they have their spats with all that space to choose from.

The oscars alone will need a 125g to themselves (thats if they actually get along once they reach 6/7"), the two sevs, a minimum of 75g, I would even say 100g before they reach full size.

Im pretty sure others will agree with me.

is it possible ,,do you think to have a single green terror,,in a 40 gallon tank,uk.,,thanx

i believe a 40 gallon for a full grown green terror would be a little small, it would be pushing it. I would say a 55g minimum for a single green terror, but i'm sure people still keep them in a 40.
