Just got home from work to find that the wife had to scoop the Gold Ram from the tank
It had been acting strangely for a couple of days with slight inflamation of the gills wich were also slightly red. Started treating with Interpet No.9 (Anti Internal Bacteria) on Saturday and was due for a second dose tonight. As you can see the gill area is very red and looks like traces of blood. (stained paper towel)
A bit late to post an emergency but I would like to know how it died. Could the whole tank be infected?

Tank size: 30g
pH: 7.2
ammonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: 50
kH: 6
gH: >16
tank temp: 76f

Sorry for the quality of the photo I had to take it on the mobile. Digital one knackered.

Possibly septicimia. But, just a guess. I know it causes redness around the scales/gills ect. Don't take my word for it, get some other opinons. It's sometimes hard to tell after death. Hell, it's hard to tell when they are sick too!!

The little Ram had laboured breathing and spent the last couple of days near the surface. I hadn`t noticed the Ram flicking but most of the other fish are flicking, Thought this was due to changing substrate from grave to sand about a week ago (another thread) http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=170734&hl=. The others show no sign of any gill swelling or redness, (guess that is a good sign). Should I still be treating with the med. Forgot to mention, I am having a few problems with water quality at the mo, lots of little particals floating around so have had to do water changes more frequently (seems to be getting better).

What results do you need me to post.
The ones at the top of this thread were done about six o`clock tonight.

ok, have the reading been high and for how long has the tank been uncycled.
Looking like flukes to me if there still flicking now that the ammonia and nitrite are 0.

Tank has been fully cycled for about three months now. I do regular water changes of 25% every week and log the water perameters at the same time, they have been pretty consistant with perameters above for about 2 months now. Not sure if it is worth noting but i have changed the internal filter with a Eheim external one about a two weeks ago to eradicate the water quality problems. Still not crystal clear if that is possible.

If there still flicking in a day or two I would get a flukes med bless them.

Thanks Wilder. :good:
I`ll keep an eye on them, they don`t look distressed at all at the mo but I have got a trip to the Lfs in a couple of days and will get some med for flukes. What would you recomend in place of the Interpet No.9

Found some info don't use in soft water, so yours is fine.

> JBL Gyrodactol
Treats Skin flukes, Gyrodactylus, and Gill flukes, Dactylogyrus. Contains tosylchloramide-sodium. Do not use in soft water. 20 tablets £9.76. Each tablet treats 20 l./4.4 gal.

Having very hard water probably hasnt helped.
Had no luck what so ever with Rams in hard water. They just cant take it.
