I have added my CUC over the last 2-3 weeks consisting of two nassarius snails, two small turbos, two hermits, a conch and two cleaner shrimp.
Levels are all good with Nitrates currently at 5 and a water change has been prepared for tomorrow (15L), I did a 25L last weekend.
Basically I was looking to add some clowns this weekend but am concerned about the brown algae I’m constantly battling against.
Flow wise I've had a big ugly 2500lph sun sun and a 1900lph koralia in there for a good few weeks but can't seem to get every part of the tank flowing hence dead spots where brown algae keeps growing.
Although the CUC seem to be happily eating away they're still not doing a massive amount to the sand and the growth is starting to hit the rock pretty badly (see pics further down!). Am I right thinking that another two or three nassarius snails will give it a helping hand?
I'm going to get a phosphate test kit tomorrow along with some removal medium and baggies. In preparation I've replaced the 2500lph with the 600lph juwel powerhead that sits above the filter box and am planning on dropping a carbon and phosphate removal baggy in there tomorrow so hopefully this will make a difference, I'm concerned that the algae will get even worse though due to the reduced flow?
Question is do I need another koralia powerhead and am I going down the right route with the phosphate and carbon media? Should I avoid adding fish until I've got the algaue under control?
