Going to be a dental floss tycoon (as Frank Zappa said) LOL

We are driving to Whitefish, MT for a relative's "destination wedding" in August. I'd like to visit Glacier Nat'l Park but we're not up for hiking. I'm kind of worried about a driving timed day pass with all the funding cutbacks & organized wedding activities. Does anyone have some short "can't miss" suggestions? I'm sure we won't have time for the long drive to the famous "mountaintop" view turnaround area, or a long boat tour.

My husband wants to do a helicopter tour, but I don't really. We did it in Maui & it was pretty of fun despite our post wedding hangovers. Nothing like the almost scary 1 he did on a biz trip to Kauai many years ago. (think Hawaii 5-0 adventurous opening). The 'copters are much smaller, a 500lb weight maximum. So, that'd be both of us & a small other person, or him & 2 not quite as small relatives. I haven't asked how much this little jaunt might cost & who he'd invite...there could be hurt feelings or embarrassing weigh ins, eek!

Any other things we should consider? I've had elk, bison, moose & bear meat so I'm ok skipping them (especially bear, lol). Huckleberry anything might be really good, but not on meats. There's a brunch-y restaurant with a good pie reputation I plan to go to. I love most any kind of pie. Anything else I should look into foodwise? I know some of you guys live "up there". What say you? (no snake meat please. Looking at you Badger ;) even if it tastes like chicken & could be made into a bow :D ).

As you can tell we not quite ready. We don't even have "wedding clothes" picked out yet. My husband thinks he needs a bolo tie for the cowboy thing (OMG, line dancing?!? I'll be happy to watch). I hope our usual fish-sitter is available. Any suggestions for our trip would be welcome.

Times ticking...

From what I've read here, it would be unwise to dress up in an elk costume and drive through Wyoming to get there.

Oddly, I've been along the eastern edge of Montana, and as a result, would suggest the western side of the State. I think the best thing in the US is the national park system. Those parks are treasures. I would see what was in the part of the state you're going to. We saw amazing things in North Dakota, at Theodore Roosevelt Park, and I'd explore what you can find in the target region.

Oh, you'd be pretty safe from people this time of year. But the wolves don't care about hunting seasons.

@fishorama I don't really know NW Mondana; I've never even been to Glacier! So I'm not much help. (and for the record, I would have to be extremely hungry to eat a snake.) Pie is almost always a great idea, no matter where you are, and even more so when filled with semi-local huckleberries.

I would guess that a helicopter tour of Glacier would be pretty amazing. But with the short amount of time that you seem to have? Maybe just hanging out and enjoying your friends would be a good bet. I find most wilderness/outdoorsy experiences give back in direct proportion to the amount of time one can invest.

Also, real cowboys don't line dance. And tell your husband that, unless it's some sort of theme wedding that requires wannabe cowboy attire, he can probably skip the bolo tie and wear whatever he feels good in. 🤠

Thanks guys! I think the cowboy thing isn't the actual wedding. Maybe the BBQ the day before. The invitation said "semi-formal" attire, no mention of comfortable, & now even has suggested colors. That's a new 1 for me. There were no animal dress up themes I saw lol.

1 entrance to Glacier is right there so it seems like we should try to go if we can. As a kid we did the "out west" driving vacation to visit relatives, national parks & Disneyland; "Jellystone" but not Glacier. We'll probably see enough mountains on the way. We're going via Oregon & northern Idaho to visit my cousin.

My cousin’s daughter is marrying a man from India. We were asked to wear the attire of India. Well there is regional dress in that fascinating country but I picked out an outfit from Amazon that I like.

My other cousin’s son is getting married in Silverthorne, Colorado on top of a mountain at an altitude of 12,500 feet. Ski lift to the top. Bring an overcoat me thinks. Now the bride is Vietnamese. It could have been a destination wedding.

I bet your Indian outfit will be comfy too, I'd need someone to show me how to drape a sari.

I am worried about being chilly, I don't know if the wedding is outside or in. It's in the afternoon but the reception is later. The sleeveless dress I hoping to wear does have a matching jacket & uncomfortable shoes. I hate shopping & trying on clothes. I asked my bro in law if I can bedazzle some long underwear & still be semi-formal, lol. At least we're staying where the wedding is & we'll have our car so we can hopefully bring enough options.

Yeah, men's clothes are much easier. Throw on a jacket & maybe a tie & done! My husband has had the same pair of dress shoes for almost 50 years...but he has tried to tell me black tennis shoes & ratty black jeans can be ok too. Not always (sigh). I'm trying hard to strongly suggest he doesn't need a bolo tie. I told him what you said, Badger, thanks.

I have a few dress up clothes choices in a few sizes. Some can even be considered retro hip ;) I have what I call my "Stevie Nicks outfit" I wore to a nephew's wedding. Both our families know we're fashion challenged. If this was on my side on our old home turf, my sister would have "appropriate" attire ("mi closet es tu closet"). She's quite bossy, especially about shoes. It has unfortunately been nice sometimes to just say I need to borrow the funeral dress again. When I didn't want to wear her pointy shoe choice once, I asked my husband's family "Can I wear these with a dress?" knowing the answer would be "Yes, why not?". Like forums, you can find the answer you want if you look hard enough :D
