After wanting a schooling fish in my 30gal for a while I have finally decided to go and buy some rasboras today. Me and tetras don't go well together (they either end up dead or look very sickly all the time, even when I buy a lot of them for schooling purposes). So after talking to MrMiagi, he has convinced me to get some. I think they will make a nice addition to my planted tank.

I am excited and just wanted to tell someone. I told the BF but he was like "yeah, more fish, whats new"

Mind you, I might be back on here later moaning when all the LFSs within a 30 minute radius don't have any :p Typical me, have my heart set on something then they aren't there

What kind of rasbora? Harlequins? If yes, they're a great choice - hardy, attractive and I'd swear by them as the best ever schooling fish :p

I am very happy for you. I like hearing stories of people buying fish as I have to live vicariously through others until I convince hubby to buy me another tank. I'm thinking a 55g and lose the telly but he's not going for it!!

Good choice - hope you find them, let us know!

I have 7 rasboras in my tank with a betta and I think they look great.

yep, HArlequins are great fish to have.

But beware, there is also the "espai"(sp?) rasbora which looks like harlequins but are smaller and have a more distinctive colden line. i got one by mistake at a lfs and havn't been able to find more but he/she schools normaly with the Harlequins

There are many rasbora species out there. And like you found out DD, they should all get along fine with each other, even though they may be dissimilar. :)

Bad news....my LFS didn't have them. The dodgy LFs around the corner had them but they looked kinda sickly so I didn't get them.

Good news.....my LFS had some awesome swordy males so I got myself a golden sword :p He is kind of a sunset/yellow colour with black on the lower edge of his sword (which is very small ATM as he is a juvie). He will make nice babies with my orange lyretail, my neon girls and my yellow sword :p

tsk tsk tsk
Chookie....always with the livebearers :p

im expecting pictures!
Congrats on the find
