Hey,

I brought a few plants from my LFS a few weeks ago. A couple are ok. One my fish very much enjoy destroying.

I only have a gravel bottom on my tank and not the layers of compost and gravel i have seen with the fantastic planted tanks some of you guys have in this forum. Can i grow plant merely in this gravel, or are there alternatives i can use to bring plants into my existing set up, using bogwood or slate maybe.

Part of me really wishes i had read alot more before starting my tank and not just got overexcited and set it up straight away with little thought as to my options. I have however put in fish that I love to pieces and would like to provide a tank that compliments them,

I have found the few real plants i have put into the tank give it much better look than before and hope to achieve a little of what i have seen on this site.

Any help and advice is greatly appreciated.

Have a read of the pinned topics at the top of this section, have a look at the lighting article first of all, as thats the most important aspect initially, decide do you want a highlight or low light tank and set up your lighting accordingly, this will also determine whatt plants you can grow, just be aware that highlight tanks are more expensive to set up initially.

Just start reading all the threads here and ask questions if you get stuck, but between the pinned articles and the threads there is a lot of information to get you started.

Rightio cheers mate. I think the lighting that was provided with the tank is quite sufficient.
BTW thw carpeted java moss article is great, think that will be an addition.
