We're going on a two week holiday this summer, for the first time since we got the tank.

What do you recommend with regard to making sure they are okay and well fed?

I've heard of automatic feeders that dispense food every day, but I've never seen them.

You can get food blocks or auto feeders - Check them out on ebay - loads of them.
Or even better get a nice person to do it for you - thank god my dad's looking after our house (and fish) when we go off to menorca in June

We've used food blocks when we've been away for a week or a weekend. They always say on the packet that one block will be enough, we put in two blocks, then when we return they've all gone! We must have greedy fish.

Thanks for the ebay idea, we'll do that.

personally i'd give them a good feed morning before you go. big (35%) water change that evening and let them starve.

however i have a planted tank, if they get hungry they can pick at those. this does them good as food is scarse in the wild and fish can survive with out food for 4-6 weeks depending on species.

if you have fake plants though i'd get someone to feed them once in the middle of the 2 weeks.

Thanks, we've got a feeder now and testing has been okay so far.
