Hi. I am going away for 3 weeks and was planning on arranging someone to put in some food sticks once a week, would this be okay or would it better to get someone to feed them every day?

thanks - harry

Dont put them food sticks in, Get someone to pop in every three days or so and just feed them their normal amount and dont be tempted to give them more as this will only polute the water.
Fish can go a very long time without food, They are not like us and dont need the same regular feeding times.
Do a large water change before you go away so they will have some fresh clean water. Get a timer for the lights too just to keep the fish happy!

Thanks for that, I've got an electronic feeder too but that doesnt seem to be working properly (think its condensation/humidity) the flakes seem to stick to the opening and very little comes out.

Would it be worth try with granules or is it better to just play it safe and let someone feed them?

I already have a timer for the light, so thats okay. What about the airstone, should I leave that on all the time?

thanks again - harry

urm few facts missing here...

what size tank?

and what fish?

these can affect what you can get away with.

leaving the airstone on all the time is fine and it's best to get someone to feed if you can rather than the autofeeders.

another tip is to measure out set ammounts of food to feed so the feeder doesn't end up killing your fish.

hi.

what size tank? - 120 litres

and what fish?
12 tiger barbs
3 blind cave fish
6 rummy nose tetras
2 catfish
2 rams
2 suckermouths (?)

yep if you get your feedere to feed a set ammount every 3 days then you'll be fine

then when you get home do about a 30% water change with a very good gravel clean.

Although if you can feed froozen foods they would be better as they don't produce as much waste. and it would be like a treat to the fish, plus it's food for all.

1-2 froozen blocks every few days would be much better than processed foods.

Thanks for the tips guys.

I think I'll get someone to feed them every 3 days, the feeder is once/twice daily only
