on a timer??

All ours are on a timer. in the shed and the house...

Do you have a timer you could use? If you do, that would be the best solution, however if your tank is in a room with natural light in it, and you dont have plants, and you cant get a timer, then you can leave the lights off and just have the natural light in the room.

i just got back from 3weeks holiday i had 2 tanks i timers £1 each at shop thats cheap....third tanks next to window so got natrual light my sister looked after them for me....

Ooh, no timer and it does have plants, The room can get bright with the blinds open should I just do that? I'll see if I have a timer, does it just hook up to the outlet or something?

Normally its a plug like a power surge plug that goes in between the lights plug and the socket. You then turn the plug on and the timer only lets the current through when it's set times are

yeh, don't leave them on or you will get green water and a load of other annoying problems
