I'm going away next week for a few days from thursday to saturday (vulcanic ash permitting) and I'm thinking about what to feed my fish while away.
Now, I know there are tablets made for the purpose but often designed for much more crowded aquaria and, having had lately some (now resolved) nitrite problems due to overfeeding and consequent dirtiness I'm concerned those tablets could be a problem again.
The aquarium (a 120 litres) is dwelled by 4 juvenile silver dollars and one young bristlenose plec.
As my Silver Dollars LOVE eating the plants I thought maybe buying a few, easily nibbleable (if nibbleable is a word at all...!) bunched plants and let them have their own bit of fun. Would they be ok with that? I'm imagining so?
About the bristlenose, not sure what to do. Is eating algae actually enough for these fish? I have some algae on the sides of my tank and could not clean it before leaving?
So, would it be ok to treat them with some nice veg (steamed courgette? other suggestions?) before leaving and then let their nibbling habits (plants and algae) take over for the 3 days I'll be away?
I was also thinking about adding few shrimps or crabs in the tank to help keeping the gravel clean, could it be a good moment to add them and let the holiday tabs dissolve?
Or am I safe with holiday tablets and nothing else?
Any input and suggestion is more than welcome!
Thanks a lot,
Alex
