Going Away For A Week

Im going on holiday in 2 weeks time and im wondering what to do about feeding the fish while im away.

Got the lighting sorted with a timer plug but i need to keep the fish fed. Should i buy an auto feeder (£15-20) or buy one of those balls of food i've seen in the LFS that claim to last the fish a week (will this not give me water problems? or will my danios eat themselves to death as they never know when to stop)

Or could they be ok for 7 days without any food at all if i gave them a slightly larger than normal feed the night before i leave... Help people

You dont need to fish them whilst your away, they can last that long without any problems. Dont go over feeding them prior to going either as that could leave some food rotting in the tank that you are not there to deal with.

Do a good water change/gravel vac the day before you go, feed as normal and then feed lightly for a few days when you come back to ensure they dont stuff themselves when they do get food.

i brought an auto feeder when i went away just to be on the safe side, set it to feed a small amount in the middle of the night and middle of the day

Agree.

I wonder if your platys and danios are large enough to chase that lovely amano shrimp (listed in your sig). It may get chased a bit while the fish aren;t being fed. If he's fully grown then there's nothing to worry about. If unsure - put something small in the tank he can hide in.

I have an auto feeder I use if I am away for two weeks. But it is personal choice. As minxfishy says you don't need to feed them and you will come back to a very clean tank

ok cheers people,ill let them go hungry this time. but next time ill get an auto feeder.The amano shrimp isnt what i'd call small, but i wouldnt be surprised if the danios have a go as they are quite boistrous with him when we feed him his food (they eat all their food up then go and pester him for his (despite the fact its only algae)
