Hi all,

I have now fully fish less cycled my 17 liter betta tank and for the last week or so have just been topping up with ammonia and making sure it is cycling the ammonia quickly (which is is) anyway i am now going away for 2 days so will not be able to add my daily dose of ammonia, Will it be ok as long as i add some before i go away today and then as soon as i get home Sunday?

Is it worth grabbing a few danios from my larger tank and letting them swim around in the new tank for a few days just to keep it ammonia loaded? only problem with that is the temperatures are nearly 2 degrees different and obviously the 17 liter tank is small and we all know how danios like to swim.

To be absolutely clear, you talk about ammonia diappearing quickly, but mention nothing of nitrite and nitrate readings. Can you confirm you test for all three, please?

No Probs, after 12 hours of adding 5ppm of ammonia the readings are Ammonia 0ppm, Nitrite 0ppm and Nitrate are around 10ppm at the moment. So the tank has cycled but i have not put any fish in it yet, I am adding 5ppm daily just to keep it from cycling again until i get the fish i want.

I had a couple of 2-3 day windows during my cycle where I could not dose with ammonia. As soon as I returned home and would dose again, everything would test fine within 12 hours. So I think you're okay as long as the tank filter is still on while you're gone.

Perhaps drop a few flakes of food in there to rot and then feed the bacteria?
