i have a 2.5 w/ a couple of my black swordtail fry in it. its a tad dirty in its first night... i have the sponge filter, but i also have 3 ghost shrimp and was wondering if i could put one in the 2.5 to help keep the bottom a little cleaner. is this ok, or will they mess w/ the fry?

What is the exact species of shrimp as there are many which go under the common name "ghost shrimp"?

Most common ones are
Palaeomonetes - should be fine although they can be oppurtunistic but the fry should be quick enough to not be attacked but I am not 100% sure
Amanos - Absolutely fine with fry

i couldnt tell ya, best i can do is provide a picture. iv only found two of the fry so i dont want to lose them.

Picture will be good try to get a nice horizontal one with the whole side on show as the main pic with a couple of additional ones for clarification with identification.

any info on if these guys will harm the fry would be great... i used siphoned water from he parent tank to start my nursery tank and its a little dirty on the bottom. i want a shrimp or two to clean it up a tad for two days.

Looks like a species of Palaemonetes to me which are safe with the fry. Got confused last time with Macrobrachium shrimp which are oppurtunistic killers. Are your shrimp hectic when trying to find food or graceful?

If graceful then Amazon glass shrimp
If hectic and then American glass shrimp

to be honest i dont really notice much of any hectic behavior from them. they cruise around and pick something up, naw on it and move on... there isn't much competition in the tank yet as i dont have much in it and there's plenty to eat at the bottom... im going to toss two in w. the fry and keep an eye on em. thanks for your help.

well, i tossed one in from the main tank yesterday... woke up to him dead as a door nail today... -_- guess iw ont be doing that again... on the plus side, i found another sword fry in the main tank and got him to the nursery tank.

Did you properly acclimatise him to the new tank? Inverts are usually more sensitive then fish and should be added slower.

well i may be guilty of that... since i just performed a 50% water change in the nursery tank(always use water from the parent tank to fill the nursery) so figured i could just toss him in... now i feel bad. :/
