Ok, so it's been quite some time since I *frequented* this board but now that things have settled down with my move enough, I've had time to take the care of my aquariums they need. So here's my female betta / tropical community. My girly bettas are well behaved. Too well behaved. In fact, they're kind of wimps.

Anyway, I took these pics today, after shifting around some plants.

Don't even ask about my stocklist. haha. Overstocked. That about describes my stocklist.

This is my tank, looking at it from the livingroom.

Sorry it's so dark. Can't figure out that fickle flash. It's a 38 gallon. Got it for a steal at $199.99, tank, stand, and light. It's been set up for about three months now, but most of the plants/fish I've had for about seven or eight months.

This is the focal point. Not entirely sure what kind of wood that is, but I thought it would look good with some random java moss apparently. (Sidenote, the white panels on either side of the tank are stitching canvas with java moss laced into them. Seeing where that goes.)

This is the "river bed".

The interesting thing about this is that I did nothing to create it. The large rocks I put in there, and they got shifted around with time, but as for the pebbles, I have no idea where those came from. The groove that makes the "river bed" was created by the outflow from the filter above.

This is the planning site for my carpet.

This side of the tank I will *soon* carpet with either pygmy chain sword or something similar. It's in desperate need of a gravel vac :( sorry for the messy mess.

I know it's all kind of hodgepodge, plants from all over, fish from all over, but that's kinda how I like it. I'm an ecclectic person. And so far everything is going very very smoothly. Knock on wood.

That's a very interesting looking and very natural looking tank you have there !
Are you trying to get the moss to grow on the sides to make a "moss wall" ?

mahalo for the kind words :)

yes, I basically am making a giant moss wall. i'm sure it'll be a magnet for debris and such but what's a little extra work now anyway?

hehe

I like it it has a sort of natural river look about it :)

I like your idea of using stitching canvas .to grow java moss up the side of your tank, it shoud look fantastic when it spreads.

How did you atach it to the side of the tank silicon?

Yes, I've been told a lot of things I can't do with bettas. IMO, it depends on the fishes personalities. Until I see a sign of discomfort or pestering, though, and as long as everyone's healthy, eating, and bright and shiny, they'll continue to live together. Everyone's active and aware of their enviroment and tank mates. The only pecking that occured was when I first got the female bettas, and even that only occured within the bettas to sort out their order.

Actually I was very exact in cutting the canvas down to fit the side of the tank, so it's really being held there by sheer tension. That way, I can actually remove the panels after the java moss has developed to swish out debris, etc. That I have little to no skill with silicone. haha.
