Had Tropical tank for 9 months with no problems. Have been away for several weeks so water not changed. Noticed Blackmoor had fungus on scales so treated tank with Interpet No8 Anti Fungus & Finrot. Blackmoor died but noticed Glowlights (All 6) at bottom of tank had turned white !

3 days after treatment the Glowlights colour is returning to normal but one has died but they are now all at the top of the tank gasping for air (or it looks as if they are)

please can anyone help me with a solution to this strange problem before I lose any more (other fish in tank seem to be OK although some do seem to have rapid gill movement, perhaps it's me just being paranoid !)

my tetras all surface gasp when the O2 level gets low caused by night time use by the plants/and/or overly hot water.

try some surface movement to increase the O2 and see if that helps- if that is the problem it will solve it fast (within a few hours)

Need to no water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, if the fungus is fluffy you are dealing with columnaris, and if the tank hasn't been maintained in seven weeks it is possible to be columnaris due to bad water quality and stress.

I'll just point out the the black moor most likely died form being kept in tropical water for 9 months. black moors arecold water fisj

cheers all for your help. Looks like it was an O2problem as after I did a 25-30% water change tetras gone back to normal position in tank

hey I know this answer!! lol well my glowlights too turned whiteish before and when I tested the water the nitrates where um....at 20, after a water change they where fine...

i'm guessing since ur blackmoor died the nitrates gone up, seriouslly though I have never noticed my glowlights this sensitive to nitrates before

I don't have a Nitrate test Kit but the PH Level was 6.0 (or lower) I've done two water changes and the PH is coming back to normal but I am afraid to do any more. Do you think I should try to normalise the water with Chemicals or just keep changing water?

Cheers

Take a sample of tank water to the lfs to be tested, small water changes not large, don't want to alter tanks stats to much, best to do it gradually, how are the fish now and any more symtoms of desease.
