I think the golden danios are just albino zebra danios so aren't Geneticly modified.

no, golden danios are not albino as they have dark eyes, they are actually xanthic

The glofish was originally created for detecting waste and high metals in water. When the scientists behind glofish found that the public was interested in this fish they started marketing them....

They may not look like a natural fish for those who prefer natural tanks. But they have not been dyed.



And it's no different then your genetically modified foods you eat everyday. Unless you eat organic and etc...

I truely see nothing wrong with glo-fish. Gloing was orginally used for detecting waste, but they have found gold in the aquarium industry. Im okay with Gm fish as long is it isnt detrementale to thier health, or make's them small or prone to diseases and such.

I agree with kribensis12, I don't have a problem with GM animals. As long as nothing is done that is dentramental to the animals health. Glofish are quite common here and sold in most petstores and walmarts. They have the average lifespan of a normal zebra daino and from what I have seen appear to be just as hardy. The breed true, which meant is you cross two red ones you will get red offspring. If you cross two colors you tend to get brown. Although from what I have read, the funny thing is that these fish are patented. It is supposably illegal to breed and sell them.

This probably wont occur in Britian as its generally too cold but sooner or later they end up out in the wild,mating with the naturals and then its a problem. And even if the scientists say they can be made sterile is that 100% effective.? Alright in a tank if they are carefully monitored i suppose but not my cup of tea.

to me there a cross between a jellyfish and a danio making a little glofish kids will love

With all due respect to the scientists who are just trying to better our world and future, I think man needs to stay away from tampering with genes right now. Man needs to learn how to harmonize with nature before he can go tampering with it. And to put them up for marketing and sale, was irresponsible.

That being said. Let the insults and flames begin.
