Hi,
In all the online shops, they say that Glossostigma requires high light. But does anyone know how many WPG they need.
Many thnks

Glossostigma elatinoides (glosso) is a fairly demanding plant but well worth the effort.

In a standard size, regular shaped tank i.e. 15-60 UG gal. it needs at least 2 wpg of decent fluorescent with reflectors. Smaller tanks require more wpg, larger less wpg - generally speaking. It is important to remember the wpg guide is only a guide. A good rule of thumb is 4 T8 tubes, 3 HO T5 tubes or 2 PC T5 tubes spanning the length of the tank.

Due to the higher lighting CO2 injection is essential. Aim for a stable 30ppm. A nutrient-rich substrate is also considered very desirable, aim for a grain size of 1-3mm.

Glosso is normally sold in pots. Using scissors cut the plant into individual plantlets and plant using tweezers. This is a painstaking, time consuming task but will reward you with a nice carpet (light and nutrients permitting) in a few weeks.

Here's an idea of its, some may say successful, use -

My tank had 2.2 wpg of 6500K T8 for your interest.

Agree with what gf225 has stated, i grew it very well in 2 different tanks , the first one, my 40 gallon, has 2.8WPG of PC lighting, the glosso grew very quickly and stayed compact in this setup, the other tank is a small 15 gallon with only 2WPG, in this setup the glosso also grew quickly but did not grow very compact, so i would say it wil grow well under different lighting conditions but the growth may not be as compact (plant can get leggy) as you would like until you have a decent amount of watts especially if you have a small tank. The problem in the end i had with this plant was that it grew too quickly, you would need to replant it every 6 weeks or so because it will grow over itself and the lower sections will die off, so it requires quite a bit of work to keep things looking good.

I have just over 2WPG with CO2 injection so hopefully if I get any, it won't be too bad. I have no problem with the work involved as I seem to be pruning my plants nearly every 2 days or so and I also tried using Riccia as a lawn, but that grew so quickly I was removing it every day lol. Thanks for your help guys.
