Tank: 6 gallon
Occupants: 3 neon tetras, 3 glo-lite tetras, 1 adf
Temp: 82 F

The tank has been extablished for months now. Yes, the neons are new occupants (since about a week ago) but they are showing no symptoms and I netted them out of the bag when I added them.

Symptoms: Grey-like colorings on the gills and the head and slightly puffy/inflamed. Also, slightly delayed breathing pattern. The fish however is very active and seems to be eating.

The main problem here is that I also have a 30 gallon, however, it is cycling and the Nitrites are quite high right now. I know the ADF would not be good to keep in the 6 gallon when i'm treating it, but im really hesitant to add him to the 30 gallon.

Any advice would be great here!

Was going to say that tank to small for shoaling fish,
Need water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrite, and ph.
The neons could of fetched a parasite with them, any signs of flicking and rubbing or laboured breathing, as the symtoms you describe sound like a parasite.

pH- 7
Amonia- 0
Nitrite- 0
Nitrate- 10

Temp is always between 78-82

no clamped fins

no scratcing against anything

one of the fish is hiding in the corner and not swimming around with the others, but this is not the fish that seems ill

the glo-lite tetra that looks sick has a whitish-grey gill are and they seem to be inflamed. If you look at the fish from the behind and the fish is looking away from you you can see that the gills are out farther than the normal body countour.

Well i'm in quite the tough spot now because if I treat the Tetras I wouldn't want the ADF in the tank and the 30 gallon still has a week left i'm guessing before it's done cycling :( . Do you think treating them with the ADF in the 6 gallon completely out of the question?

I'm afraid you will have to remove the frog they don't tolerate parasite meds, good luck.

Alright I got the 10 gallon up and running with some gravel, rocks, air stone but no filter. The ADF will go in this tank while i'm treating the 6 gallon for the possible gill flukes.

this is what they first look like:

this is what the noticeable sick one looks like, I know they are not the best pictures but you can see how its head seems inflamed and theres an odd coloration:

The reason why i'm posting the pictures up here is becuase the LFS that would help identify the problem isn't open again until thursday :(

Any help or recommendations of medication would be great!

They don't look to bad to me, i had problems with my glow light with parasites.
The inflamed head i think i can see some white on top is it fluffy looking, fish can get bacterial infections on top of parasites.
Gill flukes are nasty little things they have hooks that pierce the skin and in those hooks they have nasty bacteria that enter the fish blood stream.
Look under flukes.

So being that you seem to be diagnosis master in this section :D what would you suggest for treatment?

And do you think if i do regular water changes in the 10 gallon temporary ADF tank that it would be alright?

I'll try to grab some more pictures of the tetra, I just realized I had another setting on the digital that would take better pictures

Just keep on eye on stats in the 10gal if you have no filter.
Whats your location for meds.

well all of the LFS around here will be closed unitl tuesday, so I have a pretty sparce selection from a shop that is basically like a Wal-Mart. I got a few names from those links though so I will go looking tonight and see what I can find.

Thanks for all the help so far :)

Clout and formalin.

And coppersafe.

Treatment:

Treat with Clout, Fluke Tabs, Paraform, Trifon, Paragon, Quick Cure, Formalin, orParasite Guard. Gill flukes are highly contagious, therefore, all fish in the same aquarium should be treated.

Alright I found tabs of "parasite clear" and added half of one (one tab per 10 gallons) and in two days I will do a 25% water change and add the other half. The parasite clear is supposed to treat gill flukes amongst other parasites. I figured as long as the ADF is doing well in the 10 gallon I will treat the tetras for a week.

P.S.- I managed to make a ghetto filter for the ADF with the carbon filter from the 6 gallon that had been in the 30 gallon to help it cycle. It is rigged up with an air stone that is circulating the water into the carbon filter which is stuck at an angle in the corner of the tank.

I hope this made at least SOME sense
