Last week we purchased 2 glass knife fish and everything was fine for a couple of days then one stopped eating and died a couple of days later. It lived for 4 days in our tank. The other one carried on as normal. We assumed that the one that died was ill when we got. Went to get a replacement and as the shop only had 2 left we bought both. Got them home all ok for a day then it seems as if history is repeating itself. One is fine and the other is moping around not eating. I now have the original and one new one swimming around fine and the other new one looking sorry for itself. Stats are excellent all other fish fine and normal. There's nothing in there to harm them unless they are doing amongst themselves.

Any ideas?

IME they are very sensitive to travelling.
when I worked in a LFS I ordered 3 batches (at different times) and all
3 batches had over 90% mortality rate within 1 week of arrival

well that's probably as good a reason as any. As I said the stats were good although the PH is high at 8.5, we live in Hampshire so it's almost chalk out of the tap, but what I've read seems to indicate this is not an issue.

Oh well maybe they're not for us.

Well all seemed to be fine until today when the 2 knife fish found each other and have done nothing but nip at each other for hours. One of them is definitely starting to look the worse for wear - the same as the others. I thought these things were supposed to be peaceful shoaling fish! How do I tell them that? Any ideas how to resolve this? Separate them, put one in another tank? I don't want to lose another one.
