I had a spray bottle with a mix of vinegar and water in it ( no ammonia ), and the spray bottle ( a chemical spray bottle ) got gunky, and didn't spray well, between uses... but I'm trying some pre-moistened vinegar glass wipes , arriving tomorrow... just curious what you guys use...

I use a razor blade attached to a long handle to clean the water side of the glass and an ammonia cleaner to clean the air side of the glass.

I figure that any vinegar acid residue is better for the tank, than any ammonia residue...

this is what I'm trying... already moist, so no spraying in the room...

I use concentrated vinegar on lids - for aquariums i use a damp paper towel but usually i just leave them be after all a clean piece of glass can only get dirty but a dirty piece of glass is well not going to get dirty since it is already dirty.

@anewbie ... that does sound like a wise acre reply... but in all honesty, I've not cleaned the glass in my South American Tetra tank since I can remember ( over 2 years ) no algae scraping or outside glass cleaning... but I do have a couple tanks, with extra heavy air through stones, that leave a build up over time, on open tanks, from the bubbles popping at the surface, along a glass edge, that over time get like water spots... and being the weirdo that I am, I have one tank that was built into my shower, and that front glass gets all the water spots you would get on your shower door... so I do have the need on a few tanks to wipe the front glass down monthly...

I use Invisible Glass to clean outside of my tanks. It is isopropyl alcohol based. Excellent glass cleaner.

I tend to clean the exterior glass when I want photos. Inside, I use a razor blade, and as noted above, outside an ammonia cleaner. I also clean my glasses for photos, and sometimes use a bit of the alcohol based cleanser on tough spots.

It makes a tremendous difference for photos.

I use strictly vinegar now. Used to use an ammonia based cleaner, but either had overspray or the towel with cleaner came in contact with the water. This resulted in the fish showing signs of distress, performed a 90% water change immediately and the fish started acting normal again. Vinegar works well enough that it is not worth the risk to use ammonia near the tank.

When i do scrape which is not often - i use a plastic razor having scratched enough tanks over the years. The razor it self shouldnj't scratch glass but the holder usually can.

I have some ancient "aquarium safe" cleaner called Outright. I won a few at a club years ago. It works ok.

But I almost never clean the outside glass, OMG! I hosted my plant club twice in 7 years & my club friends did it the outsides then. Since I don't take pics & don't see super well anymore it doesn't bother me. I'm better at algae scraping the inside...my husband is even better at it!

I have used Windex type ammonia cleaner sprayed away from the tank onto a paper towel, but a long time ago.

so a 1st test of the wipes I linked, was the aquarium that is in the shower, and this had a thick build up of dried water / soap scum from the shower, along with the bubble popping water dried on the outside of the tank, where the air stones are... most of the front glass was nice, after the 1st cleaning, and the bulk of the water spotting from long term, from the air stones was removed... there is still a small amount on the glass in the thickest areas... I'll give it a day, and wipe them down again, but as bad as some of that was built up, it may require a straight razor to get it clean, then I'm sure a quick wipe, will clean any new build up, if done as i notice it, not a year later...
