I've had (2) Glass Catfish for almost a year and I finally re arranged my tanks enough to get them some companions. The original 2 are about 3 inches long and I added (3) 2 inch Glass Cats since that's all they had at the time.

They've been together for exactly 1 week today and they all seemed to get along, but now two of the new ones are hanging out together away from the rest. One of those is much darker in color than the rest, almost like window tint! Could this be a problem or is it possible mating colors? I realize that spawning Glass Cats has not been documented in home aquariums but there's a first time for pretty much everything right?

All tank stats are normal & the stock can been seen in my signature in the 20 gallon. I just did a 30% water change last night & the tank is heavily plants with anubias and some wisteria. Very low lighting at the moment.

Any ideas?

hi there, glass cats are sensitive to water temp, have you checked yours? when the body goes cloudy thats the cause.couple of times mine have gone cloudy i just increase temp to around 30-31 for a couple of days.

also where you re arranged your tank you may of stresed them slighty, away to see this is if there whiskers are not out in front fully then they are stressed.if so then just leave lights out for a while and generaly leave tank alone just to let then calm down.

Thanks for the reply m00ms, but it's only 1 of the 5 that's changed & it's tinted darker than the others but acting, feeding normally. It hasn't gone white or even cloudy, in fact it's still transparent but like it has a much darker tint to it. I'm certain it didn't go into the tank that way.

As far as temp the current temp is at 77-78 degrees F. I hesitate to increase the tank temp for the other inhabitant sake's, especially the Corries & Bolivian Ram.

I was interested to come across this, as the last couple of days I have noticed one of my glass cats has gone partially cloudy white, but is not dead, is active and eating! All the others glass cats (and all my other fish - cardinal tetra and 2 ghost shrimp) look happy and healthy. He's kind of white from within, definitely not on the surface, and is not spots.

How quickly do you raise the water temp? I don't want to give the tank a shock. Tank is at approx 25 degrees Celsius currently
