Glasgow Keepers And Breeders

Hi.my names Davie. just set up a 4ft tank i managed to acquire from freecycle site online, just saying hello and getting to know anyone in the Glasgow area.
My hope for the tank is to stock it as a community tank, but i am really interested in keeping Threadfin Rainbows.
I have some experience as i used to keep and show fish at the Scottish aquarium festival ( SAF ) when it was running in the civic in Motherwell many moons ago, since picking the hobby back up it seems most of the clubs or society's that used to run have al but stoped now,so i thought i would start this post to see if there was any local interest with the hope of sharing ideas and intrests, maybe even think about getting a wee Glasgow group and show off the ground for next year, what do you guys think ?

Yeah had a look about there, apart from perth and lothian there dont seem to be any clubs/groups in this area any more, when i was younger i used to go to the muirhouse aquarist society which was part of SAF.
They had regular monthly meetings and shows, kinda trying to get back into the hobby and been talking to local shop keeper on dumbarton road in partick, was thinking it might be a good idea see if there was any ntrest in starting up a Glasgow Group

Thanks Shelagh, and yeah, totaly adds to the hobby, i used to have loads a fun going to the shows n stuf when i was younger, good way to share views fish ideas etc, look forward to hearing from him

Alrighty.

Good to see another Weegie on the forum. To be honest I've never really hear of or looked into any clubs in the local area. I was supposed to go to a club auction in Fife once but thats about it. I would be interested if a club was setup so defo keep me posted. I have a few mates into fishkeeping that would probably be intestested too.

Have you been able to get threadfins yet? I saw a load the other week in one of the fish shops in town(cant remember which one).

Yeah saw some threadfins about, not a lot of decent ones though, Pets@home or coral reef seems to be my only choice at the moment, looking to maybe get some on mail order maybe , only had the tank set up for a few weeks so waitin till evrythiin settles in before i go spendin too much more pennies hehehe,been begging fish for free online,lol got a few guppies off nice lady in maryhill to start me out

On the club side o things, i used to be a member of the lanarkshire group when i was a teenager, few years ago now but yeah i will deffo keep you informed, even thinking along the lines of gettting evryone together as an online group, maybe all meet up now an again for coffee chats and swaps kinda thing, go to shows together, was hoping in time get enough folks together to orginise maybe a wee show of our own, but need to wait and see who all is intrested.
Good to hear from you anyways and i be sure to let you know if anythin happens, maybe use this place untill enough peolple show intrest then think about puttin web site together, who knows,lol

I have a ton of endlers if you want some. I dont think they are particualrly pure but are tough as nails. I think it might have been either the wee shop in the saltmarket beside terry tatoo or that one up beside the barras that had the threadfins. I do remember thinking they were pretty healthy looking.

Yeh that sounds good to me. Theres a few other people from the area on here and people I know from other forums too. Dunno if my fish would be show worthy as i have an odd obsession with hybrids but I do keep dwarf shrimp/nano fish like galaxy rasboras and the like.

Sorry man, i missed your post the other day, you still got the endlers, be great to get a few off you, Know some other folks that would takes some too, if you have a lot you trying to get rid of, how much you wantin for them, lol or are they free,hehehehee.
collecting few names now for club thingy, looking good for maybe a first meet end of january satrart of febuary i think, just trying to find suitable location thats centrel for evryone, i know wee coffeshop we could use in hillhead (glasgow westend) just not sure if thats easy for folks to get to, will keep you posted

Put some posters around the shops in Glasgow this week and had a chat with most of the owners, all quite enthused by the idea of a Glasgow club and maybe a wee show atsome point,so all good.Hope it will drum up some more folks.

So far i think about all in 10 maybe 12 folks should good intrest from this site, so thinking end of january start of febuary for the first meet, then sort of decide how we want to play it. ie what type of meets, things to do, swaps etc etc etc.

So any and all ideas welcome
