Ever since I was 14 I have had at least two fish tanks in my room. Today is a miserable day, I have decided to give up one of my tanks.

I am selling it, but not the fish. I gave away all my clown loaches today. they needed new homes having grown a ridiculous amount in the three years I had them.

I have always been on the borders of being over stocked but had been able to keep up water changes and keep NO3 levels down. This last few months due to work I have been really behind hence the giving up one tank to keep on top of the other one more.

I have two keyhole cichlids a false flying fox and a bunch of Black mollies and guppies.

really I want to know in the 35G tank how many guppies/molly adults can I keep, if any?

the keyholes eat the babies....The tank will now be heavily planted as it will have all the plants from the 25g as well, two fluval internal filters(should I up grade to an external?)

so advice suggestions?

thanks
Lucy

Yes I would use an external filter, it will look much better and give the fish more space. I use Eheim filters and have found them excellent.

If you use the rule of 1" of fish per gallon to give you a guideline, but you can go over this slightly. The keyholes would be around 9", the fox 6" so thats 15" of fish.

If you said you could have 20" of Mollies or Guppies you should be ok.

Thank you, that sounds promising I wouldn't have to get rid of so many fish then.

It is depressing looking in to the tank and not seeing the clown loaches.

but they will go to better homes.

any other views still welcome

I agree with the above, and also reckon you're doing absolutely the right thing - it would be so much better if more people were prepared to be realistic about the time they have for their fish. Must be sad, but, good for you all the same. I don't mean that to sound patronising!
