hi- i have decided to give the fish in my guppy tank to Petco. i have 3 other aquariums and many pet birds.
i feel a little sad, but after the main internal filter stopped working and sending for a new part didn’t help, i decided i couldn’t afford to to get another filter. couldn’t afford the constant cleaning of an always expanding amount of guppies. i will also give up the bottom feeders.
can i place one of the plecostomus in my native north american fish tank?. yes it’s cool water but the summers here are near 100 and even the a/c can’t keep the water cool. also i have a lot of bladder snails. what is the kindest way to get rid of them?
i can put some in my big fantail goldfish tank, but there are so many!
i have ordered more java moss for my amano shrimp. because there might be more snails, is there a way to soak that moss, say in water with a little hydrogen peroxide? to kill any snails? just one idea.
advice please!

I'm surprised Petco will take them.

Plecos are invasives in the south, so they will go into unheated tanks perfectly well. Bladder snails? You can't release them outside (never do that - that's why plecos are destroying their way through Fla). Compost?

Can you keep a tank of male or female guppies?
If you only have one sex of guppy in the tank, they won't breed. You could have a group of males with nice colourful tails and no babies.

Do you know which species of pleco you have? Many do fine in cold water tanks, but there are some species (like the one I keep) that live in and prefer warmer water, I've been reading up about my own plecos so came across that info last night, only reason I know that!

thanks- our petco serves a small town and is often low on guppies. also the manager had to go through re- training- there were complaints of his not performing. whatever i’ll have less work and they will be adopted. :)

hi
i’m fine with down sizing my aquariums. plus don’t want to buy another filter.

hi
i had peach colored plecos. one was albino- red eyes and the other had dark regular color eyes.
Petco took all the fish. i looked at the tank and there were 3-4 guppy fry.🙄
