Um. About six months I think. (I'm sure LadyMinion will correct me, I have no sense of time)
We have two and they were about six inches and very skinny when we got them, but they're now both as fat as mud and around ten inches long.

They are supposed to be filter feeders, but they swallow shrimp pellets whole and will sit for hours with an algae water in their mouths sucking it to death.
