Girlfriend For My Male Lobster

Hey guys, ive just bought my male blue lobster a girlfriend!

any of u guys have a pair that could give me some advice??

I have one of each but i had to seperate mine because my male tore the female's leg off.
I've learnt by that mistake

it depends on the type of crayfish i guess. i have 4 cherax quads (2 males and 2 females) in the same tank a 300l 1.2m setup. lots of hiding places,driftwood and fake plants and the only time they get agressive is when they are fed. so far they are happy to live together no missing appendiges.
they are breeding at an alarming rate though. in four months i've had two sets of babies and the two females are both in berry again.
i also have about 200 babies ranging in size from 1.5 cm to about 3.5 cm. they are housed in various ponds and tanks setup around my house. i have no idea what to do with the next two batches of babies that will start hatching in about two weeks

they are kept together but we have a 100 g tank with loadsa hiding spaces. after watchem em for a few days know hes really taking a shine to her, hes collecting food for her and takin it to her, which is soo sweet. they really are getting on, its womderful to watch!

Many crayfish, if not all of them, have 2 sexual forms. Form 1 is when they will mate. Form 2 is when the male will kill the female if he can get to her. The forms change when they moult. Your tank should be plenty big enough for them, I just thought you should know.

hey redbled, as i said b4 they r in a 100 G tank with loadsa hiding places and lil caves for them both to hide in, over the last couple of days they have spent alot of time together and it seems that hes watching her all the time and never letting her out of his sight. they were given some food yesterday, he caught it and took it to her and ket her eat first the ate what was left over. aww how sweet

The food thing is really neat. I'm not sure I have ever seen that before. I have over 100 blue crayfish and about 8 albino ones. And way to many tanks

The fry will be canniballistic, but your 100 gallon will definitely accomodate your pair and the first batch for quite a while.

we have another tak to send the babies too, so thats not a problem ive been indoors most of the weekend and its so sweet watchin him parade around after her, hes seems very over protective with her its sooooo pretty to watch

When i first read the title for the thread I thought, yeah that sounds reasonable.. i'll drop my girlfriend off and bring something to transport the lobster home..

Personally I'd go get a nice big pot of salted, boiling water ready

Yabbies are good tucker IMO. As kids we used to go camping, catch a bunch of them and pig out all night on yabbies. Good times.

i will try and get some pics of the babies and the females in berry for you. have you figured out what type of cray you have? if you need some more info try ww.bluecrayfish.com its a veri informative site and has a forum with very friendly people.

edit: @dragonscales: the plan is to grow them out to a reasonable size and then chow down. the problem is that they just do not stop breeding. after this brood i am going to have to seperate the males and females, because they just cannot control themselves.
i have three ponds up at the moment. two of them filled to capacity with babies and the third will have to take all the new babies.

dragon scales: thats jus mean, how could u say something like that?? although a few of my s ocalled mates have said they will raise the babies then eat em, i cant beleive they r my friends lol, ill hopefully be getting a new tank soon as well so ill have some more space for them,
