Fish Herder
One of the female Betta's I bought last week died today. Placed her in a Community tank and it turned out one of the "Females" was a small Plakat. She got hurt pretty bad, loosing the use of one of left pectoral fin as well as having badly torn fins, but hse was swimming and eating.
Placed her is an isolation tank (and the Plakat as well) Saturday morning with a mild anti-bacteiral and salt to heal her injuries. By Sunday she had regained the use left pectoral fin.
This morning (Monday) I was a bit surprised to see that she had lost the use of her right pectoral fin and that he body had stiffened up during the night. She was having difficulty swiming and was gasping for air at the bottom of the tank. Drop in an air stone, but I was too late.
When I got home tonight she had already died.
Second time in 5 days I come home to a dead fish (1 Cory and 1 Betta), and I was not expecting either.
I guess if I am into the hobby I better get used to loosing a few.
Lesson learned: Should have drop in the airstone on the first day of treatment. I guess this would be a good procedure for any sick fish, in case their conditons worsen.
I usually avoind the airstone since in the small 1 gallon hospital tank, I think it stresses them a bit.
Lesson learned 2: Buy a bigger hospital tank. A 2.5G would cost me just $2
